Cleaning Tip..Take off your spats
Hello all,
I havent posted anything in awhile, because I havent really had anything important to say, but I have followed along on quite a few posts.
Anyway, I was adding factory fender flares to my '10 Crew sport and it required removing the lower fender "spats" at the bottom rear of the fender wells. I took off the drivers side front one and to my shock underneath it was a collection of small twigs, leaves, dirt and debris. It was about a handful in volume. It seems that these spats collect and holds whatever small debris and wont let it escape from the inner fender. Now I know they were designed to protect the exterior from rock chips etc., and they did that, but they also held all that stuff from coming out of the fender. The passenger side was just as bad. I peeled back the inner fender well to clean it all out and used compresssed air to blow it all clean.
I was surprised because I keep my truck very clean.(almost anal). I dont park under trees either. If I didnt find this it would definetly have caused a serious rust issue in the future. Its worth the 5 min to check yours out.

Put a good coat of wax on their also before putting them back on. I take mine off from time to time just for this reason.

This is pretty typical of any vehicle, and even without spats it will happen. You're right it should be regular maintenance (once a year or so) to clean these areas out...

I had this happen on my Grand Cherokee I had before my Ram. Good tip. Good reminder.
