Plasti-dipped the Nerf Bars Black
Had a chance to plasti dip my nerf bars the other day so I went for it. Cleaned them while on the truck then removed them and cleaned them again. Then rubbed them down with alcohol and dried them really well.

I went through 2 cans, 1 on each side. It worked out to be 2 really good coats then a 3rd light coat. Waited 30-40 mins between coats. Then let them sit a day before putting them back on.

Put them back on today and I think they look great. I even washed the truck and washed the nerf bars and dried them off after with no wear to the plast-dip at all.

I had the steps off all day yesterday and I actually like the look of the truck with them off as well. They're off in the first picture.

What do you guys think?

yea I really wanna see how they hold up, did you brush the plastic dip on or did you actually dip each piece?

RamMan27 09-08-2011 08:33 PM

Thanks Cajun.. I'll keep everyone posted and add new photos in a weeks time too see how they are.

Drake - I sprayed them. It comes in an aerosol cans as well. After the first coat it was dry in about 30 mins and looked good to go, I put a second coat on to cover any missed spots and just to strengthen it, then a light 3rd coat for good measures.

Looks good. Helps them blend in with the truck nicely.

nice mod! is this plasti dip stuff similar to undercoating aerosal?

RamMan27 09-08-2011 10:07 PM

Thanks everyone, glad to here your wheels are holding up scmedic09. I'll let you know how mine do.

As for the undercoating aerosol I'm not too sure I haven't used it maybe someone else can chime in. It sounds like it could suite the purpose so it may be similar. Plasti-dip apparently comes in clear as well.

i am just concerned that if the front tire throws a rock it will "chip" the plasti-dip and it will start to peel away. cuase I would love to do my bumpers and nerfs

RamMan27 09-08-2011 10:19 PM

The best part is if you do see a scratch or chip out of it you can spray over it and it fills right in. I actually hard to do this when I was inbetween coats I flipped it over and it scratched, then I filled it in and you couldn't even see it.
