Oval side step - nerf bar mounting to rocker panel conserns

I bought a set of the Mopar/Dodge 5" oval tubular side steps from a guy off of Craigs List (took off of his new 2011) over the weekend and mounted them up to my 2010. They look great and I like them alot. They came off of a Crew Cab and I put them on my Quad Cab. I like the over extension a bit for access to the bed.

My consern is, they are mounted using riv-nuts to the bottom inside of the rocker panel. I am curious if I hit a boulder or tree stump with them if the tubes are going to give and absorb the damage or if they are going to jack up the inside of the rocker panel where they are mounted. Has anyone experienced this yet?

Most aftermarket steps / nerf bars are mounted to the body mounts or frame for a reason.

Nice looking truck and the steps look nice even if they weren't meant for this body style. I don't have an answer but someone might jump in and give their opinion.:rep:

Thanks Red. I cann't imagine that no one has had any issues?

As a side note, I just installed the Bilsteins today set a 2.1" lift and the truck looks much better now. Check it out.

I don't have any personal experience with them as I have Nfab steps. But my brother in law had the factory steps mounted and highsided the passenger side while offroading.......the end result was it ripped the nuts through the sheet metal. No damage to the step bar whatever but had some carnage on his rockers. Nothing you could see without going underneath the truck but the holes are mangled and now the steps are useless.

thanks for the info. I was thinking about getting the Nfab steps. How do you like them? Can you post a pick of your truck with them on?

I will take a pic this week and get it up for you. The N-Fab steps are pretty solid and well built. I installed them myself in about an hour. The only complaint is that they dont cap the ends which I find odd. Other then that they are very legit. They also mount in a similar fashion to the OEM bars but are mounted very tight to the rockers so it will afford you a few more inches clearance. Pics to come.......
