Body Panel Drain Plugs
I recently bought a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The outside of both rear wheel wells (just above the wheel, but on the outside, paintd part) is rusted. The guy I bought it from said the rust was caused because the body panel has drains for water to escape, but that they got clogged up, leaving water to rust through. I can't find any mention of these drains in the repair manual, and can't find them inside the wheel well. I'm going to fix the rust, but figure it's a waste of time unless I also clean and drain the plugs. Any thoughts on where I can find them?

I have never heard of the plugs, but I do know that mud and dirt will build up ...up in the top of the wheel well and hold moisture which in turns will eventually rust them out. My 97 was bad, had to cut it out, there was mud stuck from the kid who had it before and never cleaned it out ( as well as anywhere, mud was caked on the underside and rear bumper was packed and rusted through ) When I cut the bad parts out there was also factory sealant which was like a foam/sponge that filled in the gaps which just as well trapped moisture. So, I think the guy pulled your strings a bit just to make a sale as well as an excuse for the rust. After repairing mine I sprayed the underside with bedliner/undercoating to prevent furter rust or at least slow the process.

yeah theres no drains back there, after you fix the rust, maybe drill a few holes in the plastic wheel well so that water can drain out and any mud/dirt that gets up there wont hold as much moisture and make it easier to clean
