Swapping a 4.7L for a new Hemi engine

Has anyone swapped the 4.7L for a new Hemi engine? Do you have to put in a new tranny too? Probably. And about how much would this cost with labor. I'm thinking of ways to save money and I love my 09 Ram TRX Crew Cab, but I need more power to pull my travel trailer.

Tranny is the same AFAIK. The outside dimensions are pretty similar as well between the 4.7 and 5.7. So far as I know, You need ECU, Engine, exhaust, Wiring Harnesses etc and it should be a fairly simple swap...everything past the rear of the engine should be the same, and knowing dodge, all of the mounts you need for the intake/fuse box and all that crap should already be where you need them. The ONLY thing I can see posing a problem right offhand is MDS, but if you are pulling a trailer anyway, disable it with a programmer.

The guys on Speed Channel are always yanking out engines and putting in big crate motors. Why not me too? Maybe I'll go big and get something that will not only pull the trailer, but also spank a Vette!

Definitely possible, but by the time you buy the new engine and get it running right (hopefully)....you could have sold yours and bought a hemi cheaper....that's just the reality...

I agree with both responses.

One, that's a pretty decent list of what you will need (plus the right mounts, hoses, belts, etc...) and second, it can be done but the cost may be more than the hit you'll take if you trade in the 4.7 for a 5.7L

I'm giving the Tow/Haul button a try first. Less $$$

The DSP does WONDERS for the 09+ 4.7L as well. For a few hundred dollars, you get the same/better HP/TQ #'s as the 05-07 Hemi, from less motor.

Not to call you out or anything but I don't think this is correct....I think what you are assuming is the diablo numbers are roughly the same as the SC numbers, which makes sense. So say 50hp, 55lb ft added. And you are adding that to the stock 310hp, 330lb ft. This gives 360hp, 385lb ft. This isn't correct though, because the SC numbers are a MAX gain, not peak gain. the peak gain is about 15hp, 30lb ft if I remember correctly, so it would actually be 325hp, 360lb ft....

Ur right bro, my math skillz=EPIC fail.:att:

You are correct, I was assuming, and it was a guesstimate anyways LOL.

no worries lol...

With a good intake and exhaust, and the tuner, the 4.7L is right there with the first gen hemi.
