Stuck in Limp Mode until completely warmed up
I have a 01 3500 5.9 diesel stock engine with intake a 4" exhust. This just started happening. After I wait for start light to go out and start engine I have to wait until the needle comes off peg to drive with power. If I don't wait the truck has no power until it warms up and it's like a switch is thrown and power is restored. Then the truck will drive all day with no power issues. The only code I'm getting is a P 1693 which is a companion code I believe? This has been going on for a couple of weeks. I did change the fuel filter resently.
"P1693: DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM"
"P1693 is the companion code...it means that there may be another code stored and you need to use a OBDII scanner to extract it.
If I was a betting man I bet it will be P0216....Injection Pump timing failure...
Let us know what happens."
You need to go to autozone and have them pull the codes for you(they will do it for free). Word of caution, take their advice with a grain of salt, get the actual codes that appears on the scanner, not their diagnosis. Post the codes here and we may be able to help you diagnose it.
