Weird Noise

I never really off road my truck but recently I was and I noticed a strange noise when I spin my tires in the dirt. My truck is 4 wheel drive but I notice it in 2wd, and it sounds like its under the driver floorboard almost. Any thoughts on what this might be?

What excatly does the noise sound like? Maybe something in the Tcase but it could be anything with a general description like that

I googled it and it sounds like someone on another dodge site was having the same problem, he took his to the dealer and they said it was the esp kicking or something. I hope thats all it is. I can feel it in the pedal when it spins.

I have the same sound in my 2010. Hate it. No clue what it is.

Try turning off the esp...then see if it makes the noise when you kick it up in the dirt. If the noise is gone, thats what it is. That was my first thought, when you loose traction its going to brake the wheels to limit wheel spin. Try it and let us know.

Nope with the TCS on or off. Still does it regardless on my truck.

not that i can remember, ill have to check tonight and let you know. I did notice that it is louder with the wheels straight or left than when turned to the right. Almost goes away when turned to the right. :4-dontknow:

If you end up going to dodge to get them to check it out, lemme know what you find if you dont mind. Im out of state for work and working 80-100 hours a week till xmas so no time to get mine in the shop.

UPDATE: Yes I do feel it in the brake peddle, and disregard what I said about it changing when the wheels cocked in different directions. Best way iv found to repeat the noise is get on a gravel or dirt incline facing up and turn the traction control off push lightly, with my 5.7 it doesn't take much to get it to spin the tires a little.

I don't know what it is, but also i have noticed the noise in 4WD as well, just not as often as the wheels don't loose traction as easy as 2WD.

Just a quick update, I went by Dodge and took a mechanic on a ride to show the noise and he couldnt figure it out, so they asked me to leave it overnight. Hopefully find out soon.
