Noise with K&N? Anybody chime in.
I added a K&N FIPK, last year. I'm happy with the performance, but the added noise at idle and low speeds is a bother. The air suction sound and greater intake noise in general is a bit annoying.

The Volant brand looks like with its enclosed plastic box it may do a better job of keeping those sounds down. Anybody that's had experience with both or with just the Volant, I'd love to hear your opinion.

Note that I've changed out the factory mechanical cooling fan for an electric one, which decreased the overall engine noise considerably (the fan is really what make most of the under the hood noise at idle), the electric only make noise once it kicks on. I believe that this is why I even hear the K&N at all.

I've had both the Volant and an open cone filter type systems on my SRT and the closed system (Volant, AFE) is a lot quieter.

i have a K&N cai and it is loud but with my exhaust and over a little bit of time you wont even know its there. it will become the usual and you wont pay any attention to it

Perhaps, I've had it over a year now.

The Volant is still a good bit louder than stock, but I loved the way it sounded. You could hear it, sounded like a mellow roar, but nothing annoying.

A year? Well, if it's still a bother, then you probably won't get used to it...

you could always try something like the airaid modular intake tube with the stock airbox & a hi-flow panel filter. I run that set up and it just a hair louder than stock at WOT.

What big orange said. I have the same setup as him and it's pretty quiet.
