yes i would say slide the bed back....recently did one on mine but was able to drop the tank since it only had about 6 gal in it. And have fun with the Crank sensor lol

Depending on the plowing you do, i would lean towards a 2500, as I'm sure you are aware of the added wear and tear a snow plow will add to the front of a truck. Then it's just up to you as far as gas...

We thought of that as well, but there is no audible "vacuum leak-type" sound. Not sure if it would be easily noticeable though

I use castrol synthetic in my car (truck is too old for synthetic). I would recommend either castrol or mobil. Just stay away from pennzoil, as i've heard it tends to leave alot of buildup over time...
