As I said earlier, they gauge system is designed to keep you from running out of fuel, so yes, it will read completely empty with a couple of gallons left in the tank.

Also, keep in mind that their gauges are designed to move more rapidly to empty when the tank hits roughly 1/4. This is done to prevent the driver from running out of fuel.

You might get more air, but the bottom line is that you won't flow any more air into the engine than the smallest restriction in the system will allow. Usually, this is the throttle body itself....

At this point, I suspect a TIPM issue, but can't say for sure because I can't see the switch inputs. Someone with a scan tool could read that data and see if the brake lamp switch is working properly.
