But it is still 2 into 1 into 2, makes no sense. Why not just go straight back to the resonators, no Y connections at all. I am sure that would be just as cheap and sound even better.

Crossover reduces power and sound, does not increase. I have been told by far to many professional exhaust engineers that most setups do not need X pipes or H pipes to get best performance.
