You don't have to remove the upper control arm to r/r the upper unless it is riveted in from the factory.

Could also be a control arm bushing. When you accelerate the control arm can can shift a bit if the bushing is bad and hit metal. I would suspect that or bad ball joints.

I would say to buy the best parts for the job. You DO NOT want to go cheap on suspension parts. If you change 1 then change them all as a set. You don't want to replace just the 1 bad ball joint...
