Default Orange FRAM filters are GARBAGE

There is nothing wrong with conventional motor oil. The modern dino oils are perfectly good.
Synthetic oil is just that much better
IF you have been using the FRAM orange, and/or lower end filters - you'll could do a much better job filtering your oil and increasing the drain interval by using better filters or synthetic.
Pop on to YOUtube or google up some info on Fram filters - they really are mediocre.
