The first thing to do is establish a few parameters. What kind of budget do you have? How much of a power increase do you want? Are there any local ordinances to worry about? Do you want to go inside the engine or just do bolt on mods? Typically, most people start with the "Big 3" mods - A cold air induction, cat-back exhaust, and engine tuner. A friend of mine has the same truck you do and did these mods and gained a dyno proven 35 HP and almost 70 ft lbs of torque with a custom tune in the PCM.
