As Battle rattle said, it really depends on conditions you drive in. Someone who drives off-road a lot will need to change much more frequently than someone who drives all higway as an example. Then some regions have more dust, dirt blowing around than others. I check my filter about every 6K, by removing it and inspecting both sides, then I hold it up to the sun to determine if there is any significant blockage.
