Default Door Dent / Repair tips

Upon getting home from the grocery store on the 4th I noticed a nice 2 inch diameter dimple in my driver's side door and a deep scratch about 1 inch long with silver paint from whatever a-hold couldn't control his door. I remember the car I parked next to - convertible silver Mercedes - and asked the store manager to check his surveillance video - unfortunately, I wasn't parked in their field of vision, or at least that's what he told me.

Anyone have any tips for fixing this, other than staking out the parking lot and getting some vigilante justice? I probably wouldn't care as much if it were an older vehicle, but I've had it for less than 3 months. My body shop guy says to do it right would run about $400 between fixing the dent and painting the entire door to keep the paint even. I'm wondering if I manage to pull it out and use touch up paint will it be noticeable?
