Even if you do get your 1-3 mpg increase, did you calculate how long it would take to make up the difference of the cost of the turbo and install? That could take quite a while and wouldn't be worth it on a budget. Also, you won't be able to turn the boost up at all (wastegate boost, like Greg said) or your engine will start adding more fuel to the mixture and your mpg will decrease. You will only see an increase on highway driving, so if you do much city driving at all, it wouldn't be worth it (for the mpg gains at least).
