Well at our shared years of wisdom you might be able to understand my problem. While out in middle of pasture, finding a puncture in the tire doesn't usually motivate me to throw out what's left of my back to try to jack up the truck in the mud and throw spare tire on. And usually don't want to hike back to get the tractor to come drag the truck to some place more civilized.

So will usually find whatever hole I put in from what stupid piece of old fence I rolled over, put a quick plug in and then use my compressor to air up tire. Then can get back to some place where someone with less miles on their backs can fix the tire properly. I am fully aware that a plug kit is a temporary repair only, but its infinitely better than a bottle of green slime.

Used the plug kits all the time when doing week long rock crawls as you would run your tires until they could not be patched anymore because once you killed your spare, you were out of options.
