I found the drive ratio chart posted by mdragon9 to be very useful; however, I do not agree with the comment that "A hemi with the 8 speed and 3.21 should feel snappier overall than a hemi with the 6 speed and 3.55." The example given, and shown to be accurate from the chart, "at 1500 RPM, you should be going about 68 MPH with the 8 speed/3.21 and about 61 MPH with the 6 speed/3.55 combo." This is true, however, that is at 8th gear / 6th gear.

I guess it all depends on what "feel snappier" means, but I would evaluate that as how does it feel going thru the gears. The chart shows that at 1500 rpm the 3.21 ratio 8 speed would have you going at 9.74 mph at end of 1st gear compared to 13.82 mph for the 6 speed 3.55 truck (also at end of first gear). To me, that would feel "snappier" as I would be going faster thru first gear with the 3.55 truck than the 3.21 truck (regardless of the 8 vs 6 speed).

Do you read the chart that way, too?
