air bags are great, but more work to install. Coilover's are simple and effective. I have air bags on the rear of my 4th gen ram, but they are super easy to put in with the coil spring suspension. If I had leaf springs I wouldn't install air bags as it's more work, I'd get coil overs. I had coil overs(monroe) on my s10 as well and they were great. I had put 2000 lb in that truck a few times and it handled it.

You can also look in to air shocks. They are easy to install. I had them on my F100 and were great.
