My current supercharged truck has just under 550ftlbs and it is a hoot to drive. From a towing standpoint I think you are right, 500ftlbs for towing is allot of stress on the other components unless they just choose to underrate the towing, but for dumb-assing around it would be a good time. BTW, I ended up needing a built transmission to handle the power, first one was not happy and died an untimely death.
I would rather have too much engine than not enough, well, that is my philosophy anyway.
