So I tested the fan clutch, and it seemed to be fine. I was getting worried, but for $30 I decided to try changing the thermostat. One coolant shower later, I had it running again. After a short drive, it started overheating again and would not remain stable. I got home, opened the hood and saw I forgot to seal the radiator cap. Damn! Refilled the rad, then topped up the reservoir and it was magic! I replaced with a stock unit, and the temp gauge now remains at just under halfway. The misfire hasn't come back so i'm hoping it was just related to the bad thermostat. Fingers crossed!!
