Wouldn't work here...we get a LOT of rain.
I'd suggest some form of CAI that allows you to isolate the filter end from the hot air of the engine bay.
For instance, right now I run a Volant that ties into the inner fender and takes intake air from there:
I've seen other intakes that put the filter down low below the engine bay and tucked up against the front fascia. They work to isolate the filter but you have to be careful of high water (even deep puddles if you are moving fast) because you can suck up some water and hydrolock your engine.
