Where did you come up with the magic number of 6k? And what data do you support that 6K number with?
There is no scientific data, as I stated it's my opinion, how ever I do agree new engines do run cleaner but when you look at motor oil what have they changed ? yes new engines extend the service time of oil , yes oil filters have come a long way in their capabilities of filtering, but what has oil done lately ?? other than go up in price you never see an oil commercial saying hey our additives to maintain viscosity, cleaning agents, anti-wear are new and improved to surpass standards that were out there when we use to change oil like clock work at 3100 miles. Yes I believe the lubricating factor of oil especially syn will go the distance of 10K miles but don't believe that the additives will.
