Default Tire size vs MPG

Greetings to all. Newbie here and I've already posted in the newbie section. I have a 2000 1500 I purchased about a month ago and it has tires on it that are a bit undersized (225/70R16). I was thinking about getting some 20" rims and bigger tires to make it look nicer, but I read something yesterday about the disadvantage of worse mileage with larger rims. Can anybody here shed some light on this, or have personal experience to share? Also, I have the flat chrome clad rims on there now and was wondering how big a tire I can get away with on there. The folks at Tire Discounters told me the largest I could go is 245/75R16. Has anybody gone bigger with those rims? Thanks for any help.
