Default CAI...a different way

I was at the autoparts store today trying to figure out a DIY CAI. while i was staring under the hood an older gentleman in an early 2000's Ram pulled up next to me. Long story short, we got to talking about what I was trying to do and he told me who he was and what he did for a living.. He was the owner of Cool Ride Products. He make heat reflective barriers and tapes for the racing industry. He went on to show me that just covering his stock intake with his heat reflective tape got him about a 3 mpg increase in fuel economy. And with the underside of his hood covered he got another 1 MPG increase. The only prob I had was that the appearance of his engine bay was horrible.. it looked like everything was covered in aluminum foil! Now I am wondering what an aftermarket or DIY CAI would look like with a cleaner install would look like and what type of gains there are to be had... Anyone care to chime in??
