That is correct. If the 8.4A(N) were to stop working you'd lose some AC functionality as there are only redundant controls for some features.

My 8.4AN is working fine at the moment (knock on wood) but I'm no fan of having so many features and settings dependent upon it. If it craps out there are all kinds of little things you won't be able to adjust until you get it repaired/replaced.

I wish they simply would have saddled it with only infotainment control and not tried to make it a required component for so many other things to function, especially since it doesn't have a flawless service history.

Then there's the fact that a touchscreen is the worst possible interface for a driver to have to use, though that is something that most manufacturers haven't figured out yet.
