When I installed my Flowmaster system on my 2012 4.7 I drove it around for a day with the exhaust ending under the box of the truck (didn't have time to finish putting the last couple pipes and tips on). I definitely had a lot of drone and cab noise. Once I finished putting on the 45's and tips coming out behind the rear wheels the cab noise/drone decreased significantly. I would definitely recommend continuing your exhaust out the back if you want to reduce the cab noise.

At heat shield won't block any noise... the noise is coming out the pipes, not the side of the muffler.
