No it's not just marketing hype. They are different....

Even though they both use a Liquid Crystal Display, the backlighting is very different. LCD uses Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp [CCFL] using Mercury Vapor [VP] back lighting. LED used Light Emitting Diodes as the backlighting. LED TV's are more efficient too. Not by much, but are nonetheless.

LED backlight TV's will have better clarity that an LCD backlight cannot touch.

Also, I'm a huge plasma TV fan. I won't touch anything else. I'm just about to throw pennies under 20K for five plasma TV's for our new home. I've been researching for almost 9MONTHS. I won't touch anything except a Panasonic or a Samsung. I'm going with Samsung on all five.

I don't know where you've been looking at saying LG is the top choice for plasma. It's not what my months of researching has unveiled.

Truck was sold today [5/19]. I got an offer I couldn't turn down. I had no more need for a pickup so I cut it loose. About to purchase a '14 Jeep SRT8 this week.

Grub out!
