I was polishing my hood today and discovered a small speck by the left washer nozzle aproximately 3/16". Upon closer inspection I confirmed it to be a bird dropping that had etched into the paint. I wet sanded with 2000 grit paper and polished it out, however it is still noticable. I was really bummed considering I only have 181 miles on it. It's not a warranty issue since airborne contaminates are not covered (acid rain, droppings, etc.) The paint is most likely waterborne and not as durable as thinner based paints. Has anybody found the durability of the paint on their trucks to be less than acceptable?
That's surprising to hear with a factory paint job.
My gut tells me maybe your hood was repaired/repainted at some point as this is very uncommon, unless the birds out your way have more toxic crap?
The best wax I have found for protection is the Collinite's 845 Insulator wax, it protects against bird droppings, amongst other things and lasts a long time.
