Fan Clutch Stuck On
I have had my Ram 1500 Laramie Limited Crew Cab 4X4 for 3 months. It only has about 2000 miles on it. The thermostatic clutch on the engines fan is engaged all the time. The truck sounds like a Kenworth when I take off from a stop light. However, if I drive on the freeway for about 15 to 20 minutes the fan finally frees up and disengages. From then on in it works fine for the whole day. Even if the truck is turned off for long periods of time, when I start it again the fan is not locked. But the next day it's locked up again. I hate to take the truck to the dealer and have his hammer and chisel mechanics sit on the seats with screwdrivers in their back pockets and lean over the front fenders with steel belt buckles on their pants. I think I will just drive it until the clutch "heals" on its own or until I have to take it to the dealer for something else.
This truck sat on the lot for months and months before I bought it in 2013. I wonder if that clutch partially died from lack of use.
