Lightbulb How to Use Chrome Tape to Add Some Bling

If you don't want to spend extra cash on a chrome tailgate handle, try using a quality chrome tape (wide rocker panel style) to get a custom look on the cheap. Here's how:

- tape a regular sheet of white copy paper or transfer paper tightly over your tailgate handle covering all parts with at least an inch around the outer edges
- with paper taped in place, lightly rub a #2 pencil over the edges and creases of the tailgate handle sections (2), making an etching of the handle (don't forget to rub the keyhole round if you got a locking t-gate)
- transfer the etching to your chrome tape, taping the edges of the etching down in several spots to avoid slippage
- use a medium to fine point pencil and outline all edges of the etching, transferring it to the chrome tape
- use a sharp x-acto modeling knife and carefully cut the contours of the transferred lines on the chrome tape
- carefully remove adhesive backing on chrome tape and position over tailgate handle. Once in optimal position- press down all contact points for firm adhesion.
- use sharp edge of x-acto knife and pry off protective film to expose the
"bling" and enjoy. Here's how mine turned out:
