I wouldn't say you're "lucky" for having to share your home with someone, but it is pretty cool to experience the southern United States ghostly phenomenon.
It is interesting really, especially on some of the older plantations and such. My house in Georgia, I was never able to determine just how old it was, but I do know there used to be an old church on the property and that was where the preacher and his family lived. A friend of mine claimed to have had a negative experience while trying to sleep in my spare room, but I never saw any malevolant behavior.
Where I live now, like I said, someone did die there, and again, the ghost likes my spare room. It is always the coldest room in the house, even with the heat running, and so far my dad is the only one who has stayed back there who hasn't had a run-in. Everyone else who has slept in there reports seeing it, even a younger child.
As far as "sharing" the house, my ex mother-in-law always used to say as long as you talk to the ghost and let them know that it's okay if they're there and it's okay for them to stay, but they have to remember that it's not just their space and so long as everyone can agree to that, then all is usually well. She even went so far as to suggest naming the ghost!
