To get my 5.2 Ram to pull better I changed the axles to 3.92 from the junk 3.55 and added oversized exhaust. I have a better response and torque and only drop one gear(5 spd) going up hill. Before playing with engine mods put the power to the ground and work on your gear ratios. Also work on an air intake system. 3.55's are ok but I don't beleive they were made with heavy towing in mind-they are good for fuel mileage and light duty towing. Any heavy towing over time will wear them out and I have run across a few Dodge Rams with busted 3.55's that were overused in hauling heavy loads.

Hope this helps.
