Yea, in all honesty all the security in the world won't stop someone who's determined enough...it's the same with car alarms.

I did just take a look though and the screw that mounts the lock is actually hidden under the bed liner on the tail gate...so it actually isn't as easy as just unscrewing that....still might fit a torx bolt in there to be sure....anything to make it a little harder for them has to be a good thing....and I'm pretty sure I don't need the plates...I can't see how they'd make any difference to what is already there.
