Not suprising that the other side is going, sounds like it's probably due. Don't know what the average life of those is. You say you don't want to do it now, but poking a hole in the boot is asking for it to tear. You may be accelerating the failure. Besides, if the boot is intact, and there is no grease around it indicating a leak, it may not be a lubrication problem, just the axle wearing out. I would just get ready to replace it, IMHO.
