No, it's not normal and since you just purchased the truck I'm going to assume that regular maintainence has not been done on it. You could try flushing the cooling system but my first educated guess tells me you have a radiator that has some blocked passages that flushing won't remedy. I've seen this happen on several Rams in the past, regardless of what engine is in them. If you have a non-contact infared thermometer you can verify blocked passages fairly easily.
