The temp of the air or presence of a heat shield doesn't really matter. For every 10 degrees F you will get about 1 more hp out of the engine(@ the fly). A small heat shield isnt going to make or break the deal, its designed to keep the filter clean more than anything. What you're looking for is a way to suck in a higher volume of air with less restriction. THAT is where you will see an improvement, not so much the intake temp. Thats why many intakes have slow rounded bends and a larger diameter. I would stay away from it because of the lack of quality, but that's just me.
What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger, unless we end up comatose. In which case we slowly degenerate into a shell of what we used to be.
