I do hope that UPS does investigate, and it's not just 'lip service'. It is situations like this that need to be handled properly so as to avoid a repeat of the error. After all, they were the ones that 'created' the original problem.
Glad to hear that you are at least compensated for your initial capital outlay. I do hope your future dealings with whomever they are with, go much better.
