I took another look at the clamps. I can see what your both talking about. seem like they will be easy to reuse. The end of the tail pipe was also damaged in the accident I was in and I noticed that the section behind the resonator was not replaces with mandrel bend pipe so it is constricted at the last 45 degree bend. I may ask that the insurance company pay for it to be redone correctly and then just ask the shop to remove the resonator when they fix it.
The muffler I am thinking of going with is quite a bit shorter than the stock muffler however. I guess I'll have to suppliment some pipe there. I also notice that the muffler has hangers welded too it. What do you do about that? Obviously I can remove the hangers with the stock muffler but I can't transfer them to the new muffler. Any solution for something like that?
