I couldn't agree with you more!
Having said that, I have turned off the belt minded 'Dinger' on mine....it is a work related thing. I setup equipment at country fairs, and drive the truck a couple of hundred feet, stop, get out, unload equipment from box, then drive a couple hundred feet....repeat many times in 15 minutes. I often reach speeds of 5-10mph....just enough to set off the dinger. In this scenario, if I hit something worthy of seat belts, it means I had a heart attack....put the pedal to metal.....drove about 1/4 mi at WOT and hit a tree or building. In that scenario, I'd be much more worried about the other people than my own well being, so have vowed not to have a heart attack while driving across a fair grounds.
If I am 'NOT' delivering equipment in short hops, I always wear my seat belt....and to be honest, I even accidentally put it on many times to drive 50 feet, and usually half strangle myself on attempted exit. Wearing my seat belt IS a habit....remembering to leave it unbuckled is a conscience effort....emphasis on effort!

While I can't speak for It173, there are situations where the audible reminder is not necessarily required. After all, you can NOT turn off the visual reminder.
