Default My trucks flashing a P0420 and a P0442 code

I was comin home from school, and drove through some pretty heavy rain and big puddles. I'm almost home and then my truck starting drivin really rough, like cutting out. So I went straight to Oreillys and ran a code scanner on it, and it was throwing the P0420(Catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1)) and the P0442 code(Evap emission control system leak detected (small leak)). The guy there it was most likely an O2 sensor. Which makes sense, because this has happened before where I went through a large puddle, and ended up replacing the O2 sensor because of the truck running rough. How is it, that whenever I go through large puddles, it ruins my O2 sensor and makes my truck run poorly?
