Recently retired after 25 + years of Paramedic service for the people of British Columbia. We are a Provincial service operating 140 plus stations and a fleet of over 500 Ambulances and 60 Support Vehicles (not many Dodges in the mix, think 6 Durangos and 15 Caravans. Most of the Ambulances were on Ford Chassis but the service has made a switch to Chev as the Duramax is a lot quieter and way more reliable than the 6.0 litre Ford. 7.3 litre Fords were absolutely bullet proof but the 6.0 litres are junk. The main reason we do not run Dodge/Chrysler is that the engineers and powers to be at Chrysler will not give certification on any of the chassis to be used as a dedicated ambulance.
We have mainly a BLS service but in the larger centres there are Advance Life Support and Infant Transport Teams. We also have air, land and sea. Helicopters are provide by Private Companies and well as Fixed Wing Aircraft. Most Fire Departments in the province provide First Response all though some have opted out.
