You could hook it up to a scanner but I don't think it'd needed at this point. It's had nothing to do with a gas cap its not like a car where you have to worry about pressure and evap. These trucks do have a lot of vp problems mostly do to low fuel pressure from the transfer pump. I don't think this is your problem normally if the transfer pump is bad the truck will have a hickup randomly. What it sounding like to me is the chip that was put in is sending an odd signal to ecm. Maybe the map sensor? Also I would take iat sensor out and clean it. you could just shook the chip and see what happens.
