When i lived out in the woods in Connecticut, we were about 9 miles from the nearest town, at least 6 miles to the nearest highway.
The farmers back then cleared the roads when they could, mostly using scoops on tractors, so needless to say, most country roads didn't get cleared much, it got packed by tractors, & regular vehicles. When the town had all the roads in town done, they would they do the country roads & by that time, it had snowed a lot more.
Every vehicle carried sand bags & chains & farm boys were always pulling someone out of the snow banks or over hills, with farm tractors & tow chains, no one had tow straps back then.

Damn, i sure miss those days
