Lithum grease is a very good rust inhibitor. Also, when I apply it (with a small paint brush), I let it bake in the sun as it does harden to some degree when you put a thin layer on. I do this since it attracts less dirt then if I were to drive immediately after putting it on. I do use it on other underneath connecting parts such as plow brackets, tow hooks etc. It does work. the trick is not getting it over everything when you apply it.
I may do this what if i put wd 40 and spray it underneath
or what about rust proofing at the dealership ????
