I think it was probably too fast in bad conditions rather than something that isn't normal for all vehicles. If you're able to roll a ram, the inertia you had going into it wasn't from a 15-20 mile an hour speed, it must have been faster and unsafe for icy roads, especially on stock tires.
i read that post as well and, correct me if i'm wrong but the way i took it was the person was accelerating not decelerating when the truck down shifted...
