i have a 02 so i cant really answer any of your specific questions but as far as a good place Yukon Gear was pretty reliable to me.i had a gmc with the 4.8 and tore out the spider gears and ring and pinion in the rear end and ended up getting my stuff from there.i got stock gears so i cant really tell you how much difference there would be but i also got the positraction unit they offer instead of spider gears.i had never heard of them previously but was very satisfied.that was my first truck...so it had a hard life...and that rear end surprised me.i was very happy with the buy.to have the ring and pinion and positraction unit installed and it was like 900 alltogether.
