Although I'm not aware of a heat spec on a rear diff, that is abnormally warm and probably destroyed your oil. I would change to a synthetic and be sure you're using the 75w-140.
It could be your gears are not meshing correctly or have not broke in correctly. If there is any "clicking" when you put it into gear or a vibration when driving I would take it to the dealer and complain. Heck, just take it in a say it started roaring when you were towing and your thermometer registered 285+ just to get them to check the gears. With a 2010 you should still be under warranty. You can also look at getting a finned aluminum cover.
