With that minimal amount of towing you should be fine with a 1500. I tow 4000 lbs almost every weekend with mine, and tow 6850 lbs a few times a year. The coil springs on the '09s tend to squat more than leaf springs do, so loading the trailer to have an appropriate tongue weight is more important. Other than that the truck tows great. Mine has plenty of towing power, even with the 35" tires I have.
